MASTERFULLY PAINTED BAROQUE "PORTRAIT OF THE NOTABLE" - the first half of the 17th century.

In stock

A masterfully painted, baroque portrait from the first half of the seventeenth century, depicting a notable in a wig, an impressive orifice and official costume with an insignia in the form of a double gold chain, in a straight ahead shot.

The semi-person with stylistic features and costume characteristic of Central Europe is perfectly shaped by sharp chiaroscuro in places, thanks to which the painting is very expressive and, despite its small dimensions, will look great in any room.

Composition and details - characteristic of the first half of the 17th century.

Particularly noteworthy is the thoughtful play of light planes (despite the dark tonality, the painting is very vivid and legible), as well as the exceptionally careful polishing of the orifice, the details of clothing, insignia (double gold chain) and the details of the portrayed person's physiognomy.

The painting, as it was then customary, is unsigned.

On the lower part of the stretcher - unsealed, coat of arms seal !

A beautiful example of high-class painting of the Baroque era - despite its small dimensions, the painting is very "climatic", impressive and decorative.

It will present itself particularly well in the office, library or living room.

Excellent state of preservation - after professional conservation, carried out in June 2016

Double canvas, most probably in the 19th century.

The painting was covered with a delicate layer of professional vernix - for at least a decade it did not require maintenance supervision.
