Description
A beautifully preserved (without any glue!), impressive, high class crater - an ancient Greek vessel used for mixing wine with water.
Decorated with beautiful, yet lightly, evenly oxidized polychromy, made in the redpipe technique.
The paintings depict two female profiles on both sides with hair pinned up in a chignon, separated by geometrised palm twigs.
They were created in the 4th century B.C., a beautiful example of applied art of the so-called Great Greece.
A very rare, prestigious object, coming from the old Berlin collection of antiquity.
